Missing notifications

I am using Windows 8.1 and usually when a new email arrives on the windows app, a box appears on the top right hand corner of my screen, whatever screen I am on at the time, showing that I have an email, and who it is from - many of these are from MSE.

For some reason this is no longer working.

I find it useful as it means I no longer have to check MSE to see if I have updates to threads I am following as I know if there is a reply.

Can anyone advise me what the problem might be?

Thank you for your advice.

I've looked at the settings and although the notifications were switched on, the quiet hours were also on - showing 00.00 - 06.00. I've no idea why as I've never looked at these settings before, let alone adjusted them.

However, I switched this setting to off and the notifications are now coming through.
