NIP for dangerous driving

A mate is waiting for a NIP for dangerous driving. He overtook a stopped car in a mini roundabout and got pulled. There was no other cars involved, no accident and no one hurt. Speed was not an issue. He's no previous, no points, clear insurance and MOT and admitted he was in the wrong. Likely outcome if a NIP comes in the post in the next 14 days?

If your friend was pulled by the police then there won't be a NIP in the post as he'll have already received a verbal NIP. if the CPS decide to prosecute they have six months from the offence date to lay the information to the court which means it would be around six to eight months before the court summons arrives which will have the charges on it. If it is dangerous driving he's summoned for then it's likely legal advice would be a good idea as on conviction it carries a minimum one year driving ban - http://forums.pepipoo.com is a very useful place for motoring legal advice.

As he was spoken to by the Police at the time, there is no need for an NIP, and they have 6 months to lay the paperwork for a summons, so he has to wait quite some time.

And I would think there is a lot more to it than stated in the OP if the friend is facing a Dangerous Driving charge.

Your 'mate' may have said what happened - but the Police may have a different more involved view on the sequence of events!
But then again maybe I've been watching too many 'Traffic Cops" and "Police Interceptors"!

Call it a lucky guess, but had the other car stopped on the mini roundabout to allow an emergency vehicle with blue lights showing go past?

It could be the police officer said dangerous driving to scare the person and the actual charge will be a lesser one (driving without due care and attention or careless driving) or it could be there's more to the incident and it is dangerous driving the person is summoned for but the person won't know until they get the summons or hear from the police if they decide to offer a course instead.

Sounds like he overtook someone who was dithering at the mini-roundabout and as such overtook on the wrong side.

If this is the case, then it probably won't go any further and the officer was most likely just putting the frighteners on him.

This is pretty much how it was described. There were no other cars except the dothering old lady, him and the cop car he failed to notice behind him. They weren't ordinary traffic cops cause they arrested him on the spot, read him his rights, took some details and set him in his way again.

And, yeah, l know the "mate" story sounds lame but it was actually a mate in his white van today. Bad combo :)

Whatever else they may have done, they didn't arrest him.
