Going from Cardiff to S. Herts. - M$ & M25 - either Friday or Saturday in the next two weeks. When in the afternoon for the return journey, is there likely to be the least amount of traffic? For example - 3.15, 3.30, 3.45, or 4.00? That is anti-clockwise from say junction 19 to the M4.

I realise after I posted it - I'd pit it on the wrong one! I've emailed a request to have it moved to a better one - how long that'll take - hard to know.

Early as poss on Friday - rush hour would have already begun at 3pm.

Saturday it won't make a difference what time.

Sending a private message to the Board Guide is the best (fastest) way to get a thread moved.;)

Hi, we move threads if we think they’ll get more help elsewhere (please read the forum rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

I’ve moved your thread from the ‘In my home’ board to the ‘Motoring’ board, where it is better suited.

    Regards

Good that's what I did, following the guidance via 'help'.

Will Saturday afternoon therefore be better than Friday afternoon?

With the M25 usually you have stretches where you can 'move' e.g. 50 - 70, and other areas where you can be stuck in second gear!!

Rush Hour on M25 on Friday afternoon will start around 1.30pm / 2.30pm, that area of the M25 will be busy even without any problems eg roadworks or an accident.

It's generally also fairly busy on Saturday afternoon but not as busy as it would be on a Friday afternoon so add about 20 mins to your expected journey time on a saturday afternoon.

You need to put the traffic annoucement on your radio and if possible get a passenger to monitor the traffic well ahead of you.

If there are problems on the M4 (It gets busy around Slough) or the m25 you could always redirect onto the M40 if things are bad.

Take some drinks and food with you as there are not many services on that part of the motorway network and if things go wrong you can be stuck for a long time.

For clarity, sending a private message to the Board Guide for the board where the thread originates (not to the BG of the target board) is best. I didn't receive a private message from you, so I'm assuming you sent the PM to a Board Guide of the 'Motoring' board.

Only I can move a thread from the 'In my home' board. The 4 'Motoring' Board Guides can't grab the thread and move it from 'In my home' to 'Motoring'.;)

    Dacouch:

Went yesterday, No problems on the journey down (east), indeed M25 have seen it worse on a Sunday.

In retrospect though should have had the Radio on for traffic bulletins for the way back.
The A41 was busy, blocked the roundabout at the Dome, crossing over! Got to the M25 at about 4.30, no problems steady progress, a few idiots criss-crossing lanes, but then comes the crawl on the Heathrow filter lane. Thought 'great' when it divides in two - not much in front or behind, then calamity - round the bend and on the M4 - grid lock. Hopes of 50 -60 no stop, 1st, 2nd gear. then once or twice we thought 'great' we're moving even reached '69' but then brake lights - back to a crawl.
It was better after Reading, but didn't get completely 'free-flowing' till after Swindon! We normally on two & three-quarter hour trip, this time more like three & a half!

Last year did it there and back on a Sunday, with previous years there on the Sunday, and back on the Monday. So just gobsmacked so different on a Friday!?
