New York Pass - yes/no?

Hello

Can anyone tell me if the New York pass is worth it. Am there for 7 days.

Also they are saying that they have an offer till the end of Feb - is that a gimmick or is it a genuine off-peak offer?

Anyone have a very touristee itinerary that would be useful - don't want to shop much as the trip has cost me enough already!

Thanks

  • Before rushing to buy decide which attractions you want to visit and price them up individually, then see if they're covered by that pass, the explorer pass or the city pass. That will give you an idea if you'll get savings from the pass (or not).
  • Want to see a all of what the NY Pass gives. My thought is having paid for it in advance I will see more as opposed to having to painfully fork out for individual attractions per day - game a psychology i know.

Anyone know if their discount offer is genuine https://www.newyorkpass.com/En/

We looked at these passes for our trip at New Year and I'm sure there was a sale on then - although that's not to say it's not genuine.

Be aware of the 'hassle' factor. For some attractions you will need to go and pick up a ticket, and then return at your allocated time, whereas if you book directly online you can pick a time and print off your ticket.

Also for the Statue of Liberty the basic pass just gets you on to the island - if you want to get within spitting distance of the monument you have to queue for a ticket on a 'first come - first served' basis.

The NY Pass offers over 80 attractions. As you say, depending on your psychology, you may see more if you've already paid for it, but do you really want to spend your holiday waking with the thought "I need to see 10 attractions today to make this pay"? Your choice of course.

Suggest you really have a look at what you want to do and plan accordingly. The passes can be good value and you don't have to see anywhere near the full range for them to be cost-effective, but it's worth planning and allowing flex for free time and weather (depending when you're travelling). You have 7 days, so you have flexibility, and NYC is a fantastic city IMO, so do what you will enjoy, not what you think you should. If seeing "everything" is what makes you happy, that's fine, a pass could be a great way to go.

As to whether the discounts are genuine, yes and no. They do offer promos regularly, especially outside the summer, but they are not always the same. For example, the 20% you saw has now expired and been replaced with a deal offering a flat USD 30 off 3/5/7 day passes. That will be a varying %. The 20% is close to the best you will see, but they might offer it again. Sometimes the offers are online exclusives.

There always seems to be a deal of some sort with the New York Pass. Have you considered the New York CityPass which costs less and covers fewer options? When we went, I looked at both and decided that we wouldn't want to rush around seeing everything on the New York Pass and wanted to visit 5 of the 6 places on the CityPass so it was a better fit for us. You will need to make a choice depending on your own circumstances though. Have fun!
