Not sure about voltage

I recently bought a gadget in the US, thinking it was battery operated, but now realise it needs charging. The instructions say that it can only be charged on 120v and not to plug into anything else.

Could someone tell me what to buy to convert 120v to 240v? I could kick myself for not reading the instructions properly before buying.

  • You'll need to convert our 240v down to the 120v that the gadget needs.

Something like this from Maplin should do.

Is the charger a wall-wart with a standard DC jack plug? If so, you should be able to get an aftermarket UK replacement. If not, can you contact the manufacturer to see if they can supply a UK charger?

  • Just to prove I'm not in it for the money ;) ... all you may need is a DC Adapter. You said the 'gadget' must be charged - did it come with a charger cable or not?

I had some smaller devices from the US like CD walkman, router, etc. all I did was looking up what DC voltage was needed and then got me one of these thingys from Argos for a tenner or so.
