Transferring no claims discount from bike to car

Hoping people can help with a bit of confusion.

I have been riding motorbikes for 11 years now and have got my car test on Tuesday. My partner has brought a new car and I am getting her Nissan Almera. I have looked in the forums and the only reference I can find is a thread about 2yrs old regarding transferring ncd from a motorbike policy to a car.

I have called admiral little box, insure wiser, Tesco bank and ecar, the first two have said no. Tesco have said over £4000 and ecar have come up £1100.

Please could anyone tell me if there's any hidden gem insurance companies I have missed. I am also very reluctant to get a black box put in as I am very sceptical about them but maybe some views on people that have used them would be sway me.

I am 27, male and have about 7 years ncd. I currently use a helmet cam for safety that I am willing to declare for use in the car.

Thanking everyone in advanced

I think it depends on whether you are giving up the bike or not? I don't think anyone gives you a discount if you are keeping the motorcycle. But was it Direct Line who will let you transfer the discount across as long as you get rid of the motorcycle, since you can't use the same NCD on two vehicles at once?

It used to be a problem trying to find a company that would accept a bike no claims to transfer to a car, especially if you have only just passed your test.

As above you cannot use the no claims on the bike and car at the same time.

I would avoid the black box policies unless its the only choice.

Thats a limitation of their website, and is a common one, and for most insurers you just phone them and their office based system doesnt have to same constraint but I am not sure if Swiftcover are willing to do telequotes or not.

As far as my experience went I wasn't able to transfer the motorcycle NCB to a car. Which I thought was fair as while the road awareness skills are transferable, vehicle control is quite different.

However I was able to find an insurance company who were prepared to take that experience into account, when insuring the car and gave me some discount on this basis.

Try Adrian Flux who are pretty flexible or I believe at that time I used Autonet.

The time from passing your driving test makes matters worse. Newly passed drivers are risky, so they wont really want to give you lots of discount.

must be the car you're getting quotes for.

im a new driver, similar age, 1.3 fiesta is £400 with 2 years no claims from a bike transferred to tesco.

You either have to rethink the car you want or pay through the nose for something bigger.

My reasoning for the fiesta is that its one of the cheapest to insure and allows me to transfer the no claims, so next year i'll have 3 years and can move to a better / bigger car, with other insurers.

its worth bumming around in a little hatchback for a few months just to get the no claims transferred.

Newbee guys so seeking help. Once the NCD has been transferred from the bike to car and one year has been completed , would the new NCD be accepted by the car insurers now?
