    Oh yes there is!

Have you never been behind the person who's picked several items that won't scan, then when asked to pay has to rummage around a deep handbag to find a purse containing a sheaf of coupons, most of which are not valid, and finally counts out a heap of small change?

Chip & PIN is quicker than cash in major supermarkets; contactless is quicker still.

Does it take longer to process a card payment for £2 than for £20?

50p sounds about right for a debit card. They do have to pay and for debit cards it's usually a flat rate between 25p - £1 depending on their size and deal with the bank

Under new pricing due to EU regulations, debit cards now charge a percentage like credit cards (although the percentage is less).

Proposed or already implemented? All fees or just the inter bank rate?

Just having a quick look at a few banks websites they are still showing a flat rate fee for debit cards on their merchant services offering
