Nationwide international swift payment

Hi all,
Nationwide mention both their unconnected BIC and HSBC's intermediary BIC in their instructions to receiving swift payments.
Is it possible to just quote HSBC's intermediary BIC (midlgb22) and not quote nationwide's unconnected BIC at all when making an international transfer to a nationwide account? Will HSBC automatically route it to Nationwide based on the IBAN, or is this asking for trouble?
I have only ever seen a single BIC field when doing an international transfer using online banking services...
Thanks,
Alex

I would ask them about this... giving only part of the destination address would be asking for trouble.0

Nationwide's online help says you need both. I wouldn't imagine they are saying it for fun, so if you miss one out expect your payment to disappear into a black hole.

Into your Current Account you will need:- Your account name
- Your account number
- Account BIC – NAIAGB21
- The SWIFT Intermediary Bank number: MIDLGB22
- Account IBAN (this can be found at the top or your statement)

I have made several foreign transfers into my Nationwide current account (using Transferwise but it should be the same regardless of which service you use).
All that is needed is the IBAN and the BIC, and some random account name (e.g. "My NW account A"). As with faster transfers, the name isn't checked and is really only there for your own reference.0 -
Have a look at this old thread:
Interwetten deposits and withdrawals: your experienceNationwide
Bank code: ###### (sort code)
IBAN: GB10NAIA######********
BIC/SWIFT: MIDLGB22
So, "NAIAGB21" seems to be unnecessary.0
