Possibly Buying Small Car
Hi
I have a company car at the moment but I am thinking of just getting my own, I work for a small company, the car is 12 years old and although tax and insurance are paid for, I feel it would be cheaper to have a small car of own because of the tax I pay for a company car.
Thinking of a small car, cheap road tax if possible, a few short journeys each day in my job, nothing flashy but reliable make if possible.
Only looking to spend about £2.5k.
Not expecting miracles just some ideas of models etc.
Thanks
Martin

I am sure you will get a few dozen ideas, all different and still leave you wondering what to buy.
Try using the What Car website and search through the used car reviews. They are usually a good indicator of reliability and known faults.
Personally I would buy a focus... http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201502241202708/sort/pricedesc/price-to/2500/usedcars/radius/1500/model/focus/page/1/fuel-type/diesel/make/ford/postcode/pl268rj/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew?logcode=p
For example....But rather pricey.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Thanks for the reply, I had a Focus many years ago, when I had what I would call a proper company car and it was a good car.
The only worry I have with a diesel would be I only drive 12 miles to work and then go to appointments within a short distance from the office and a journey once a week of about 60 miles round trip, I was worried the constant stop start would do more harm then good.
It's not my area, I am looking Blackpool/Preston and surround areas, but I think I will consider the Focus, I was also thinking of a Fiat Punto, not everyone's choice, but I had a Fiat a long time ago and I looked after it and it was a good reliable car.
Thanks for the thoughts.Been there, done that, now I want to do it cheaper!!0 -
Fiesta or Focus. Does everything you need with cheap parts and cheap servicing.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

I think I am swaying towards a Fiesta or Focus, as you say cheap parts and I would hope cheap servicing.
I have seen a few 1.4 diesel Fiesta's on-line today around £2k, some do look good value, just need to decide if stop starting would make a diesel a bad option, but I think a Fiesta would be big enough.
Just need to get out then and look at a few and try and get a good price.

No car likes short journeys with the exception of electric ones. My wife's Fiesta petrol gets gunky in the breather tubes with too many short cold starts. My daughter has a Punto, again cheap motoring.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Oddly enough the Punto, the one with the more rounded front, was something I was seriously considering, there are a few I have seen for sale and seem to offer good value for money.
I think that kind of size though would better, but I am now drawing more towards a Fiesta because they are meant to be cheap to service/repair etc.
I am going to start going out to have a look at a few, I will probably end up buying the exact opposite, but I know it needs to be as reliable as possible, that may be down to luck, but cheap to run, insure and tax, I know I am not asking much.
Thanks for the advice.

What about a Micra or Yaris?0
-
I will have a look at those as well rizla, got to admit I don't really like the Micra, but in the circumstance, I should at least look.
At the moment I have an elderly Mazda 323f, first Japanese car and it has been fairly reliable but I chose the one model with rust problems, but in more down to the cost of paying company car tax on such an old car.
Thanks for the ideas.Been there, done that, now I want to do it cheaper!!0 -

I used to have an older micra ~1998, was a great little car, but I agree I don't like the shape that you'll be looking at. On the plus side if a lot of people don't like the looks then it should drop the price!!0
