Hi,
We are a little mixed on all this. We have asked our solicitors how before we could be expecting to exchange they told us 6-8 weeks ( no chain either side)
However they did say they are not going to do anything until they get the contract from the seller. Is this normal? surely they should still be doing searches ?

Solicitors are masters of the slow bicycle race! However, it is not in your interest to do unnecessary work up-front just I case the vendors change their minds etc. Searches are fairly quick so there is nothing wrong with waiting for the vendors solicitor to make the running.0

Hi,
We are in the same position
offer accepted 4 weeks ago, we have our full mortgage offer, valuation and survey done. We are FTB and vendors are buying from so someone who is going to rent.
Gave our solicitors details to EA 2 weeks ago, our solicitor has now sent 2 reminders to the vendor's solicitors but still haven't received anything.
He won't do searches until he has paperwork from them. Just want to move!!0 -
I think they need the details from the seller in order to inform the detail of the searches.0

It is likely the contract pack rather than just the contract that they are waiting on. This will contain the plan, which is needed to identify the property for the searches.0

This is our second house but the first was a new build. I think I have aged 10 years since this all started! Hopefully you hear something next week.0
