Tesco Bank scam

Options
Just received an email apparently from Tesco Bank, with logo etc., advising changes in interest rates. Clicking on link takes you onto a very authentic looking log-in page. It is a scam.
Named after my cat, picture coming shortly

Anyone with their wits about them would check the URL of any link before clicking on it. How do you know your PC isn't now infected with something?

(I hope you have adequate protection - AV etc.)

I would never spot it amongst the dozens of such scam mails that arrive in my spam folder every day. I get emails from banks I've never even heard of.

Thanks, OP, these scams are aimed at those who are less aware, the more publicity the better.

Thanks. It's worth reporting to phishing@tescobank.com

Also worth reporting this as a phishing email to your web email provider if you use Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo etc.

    Hung up my suit!
The headline sounds as if the OP is blaming Tesco. This phishing goes on all of the time. Do not click on emails from any bank until you know it is genuine.

In Outlook for instance you can right click on an email header and then select 'view message source'. You can then read the detail such as URL and message and fairly easily determine that the mail is not genuine or spam etc. ;)
  • Good spot bro'. Minds me of IE3, and storing log in details on my bank site, and them days not a secure link. Still use the same log in details and still not scammed!

With suspicious emails, all you have to do is place your mouse pointer over the link given (no need to click) and read the address given at the bottom left of your screen. If the link shows ...tescobank.com and correct details are given in the email then it's probably safe:

    http://www.tescobank.com/security/genuine-tb-email.html

If when you hover over the link and the address shows a short click link such as ... bit . ly/xxxx or another hijacked web address such as www.bobscountryfarmstorekansas.com then you know it's a scam.

Or get a Gmail account. I've never seen once since & when out of curiosity I look in the spam folder all the links from such emails have been removed anyway.
