Offer made on item - help I'm an Ebay newbie

I've bought plenty on Ebay but just started to sell ( in very small way after having but of a clear out).

I haven't put any 'buy it now' options on anything, but a seller has contacted me with an offer on an item that has no current bids but has a few days to run.

Can I accept their offer and if so, how? Will it cost me to do that?

Any advice gratefully received.

  • If you are happy to accept their offer then you could message them back and say you'll add a buy it now for the item for the price agreed - hopefully they will still be online and see your message when you are too, you can then add the buy it now price by amending your listing (don't think this will cost you anything extra), let them know you have done it and then they can buy it from there.
    Hope this helps

Any BIN price must be 40% higher than the start price and there is a charge to add this option.

  • Oh right - I didn't know that (obviously didn't pay too much attention when I did it!!!). Maybe factor in the cost of adding the buy it now if you want to sell quickly and they have offered a good price? Or message them back saying it would cost you to do it so would they pay a little bit more?
If it should sell well though then leave the auction to run - especially if there is a lot of interest in it.
  • Thanks for your advice and speedy replies.

Just be a bit careful; I've had a few people wanting to buy stuff through paypal and stuff instead of following the right path, and they have turned out to be scams. Obviously I'm not saying everyone is like this, but I just thought I'd add my 2p to the pot so that you are aware of possibilities. I always say to them I will have to let the auction run, and if they are serious then they will bid, if not then you haven't lost anything.

  • Try to get a phone number off them and do it off ebay (no fees then), but only accept bank transfer for payment or cash on collection if they're local.

I previously never used the BIN option, when listing items on an auction, because of the added price.

More recently though, I started selling using the fixed price method, rather than the auction method. I check on past sales to get an 'average' price for similar items, then simply list the item at that price and wait for buyers.

It sometimes puzzles me when I see that there are several watchers interested in an item. What are they waiting for ??

Tomorrow is the 1st of the month .. so why not remove your item (as long as there are no bids) then relist it as a fixed item. (no charge)
