Honeymoon Ideas for Friends

A friend of mine has asked me to arrange his honeymoon as a surprise. His wife to be has never flown nor been abroad so he doesn't want too long a flight. They wedding is in June and neither of them have any ideas, they just want me to arrange it (no pressure there!) so I am looking for ideas of somewhere reasonable I can send them as the budget will be quite tight, but as they are not experienced travellers I need to try and keep it simple for them. They are both in their early 50's.

  • It depends on what type of people they are I think; beach lovers, sightseers, interested in history/music/buildings/food/wine. A mix of all those?

Do they like quiet, reserved or lively? Will they want to stay in a resort round a pool or get out and about?

If you give us a potted bio of them we can give you some better ideas.

  • I cannot understand why they just don't use a TA? Get a professional involved???
  • European city break, perhaps? Lots of romantic cities to choose from, Paris, Venice, Rome, all obvious choices for honeymoon, with short flights and lots to see. Paris in June, gorgeous.

Not sure what you mean by 'arrange' it, though. Does that mean booking flights, transfers and accommodation on their behalf? If the bride has never been abroad before, does she have a passport? Not sure how long applications take these days. I'd love a surprise holiday myself, but I really must get my passport organised first!

    Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions. She does have a passport so that isn't a worry. And asking me to arrange it does mean flights, transfers, accommodations etc. As they are not seasoned travellers I want it to be quite slick for them for the transfers etc. I am not sure why they don't want to use a TA, possibly because his last few holidays have been golf trips with my husband and I have organised everything, and they have always worked well. I am not sure what they want to do really, and neither do they. He usually goes on golf breaks and she has never been abroad so the remit is just that I have to organise a honeymoon!

If she is in her fifties and never been abroad - ever then perhaps the question is why not . If she has a fear of flying for example then Eurostar might be a better option . Or maybe she is very fair skinned so doesn't like hot weather places .

Might help you understand what type of holiday would suit them

Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • How long for?

    What is the budget?

What are their hobbies and interests?

though personally I think they should be choosing and arranging somewhere themselves, perhaps with ideas from you or a TA. Sounds like he's just being a bit lazy in asking you to book it to be honest!
  • If not keen on flights, how about taking the Eurostar to Paris?

    Or a cruise?

Because they want genuine advice based on their needs and not a TA's comission?
