Never Paint Again/Weatherguard External Property Coating

General enquiry as to whether anyone has any first hand experience of those companies who claim that you will never need to paint again with the WeatherGuard exterior wall coating system.
I am interested if they actually do what they claim, will the external coating actually last 15 - 25 years?
Does anyone have a rough idea of the cost. I have a fairky large semi and the gable wall goes up to an apex on the roof so is pretty high.
I appreciate that I will need an estimate to get exact prices however I don't want to go through the estimate or hard sale process if the cost is astrnomical.
Anyone have any knowledge of potential negatives of this system?
I would appreciate views/experience of others.
Thanks

I cannot answer based on experience for I would not use these types of products. My intuition is that these are high commission driven sales pitchs, and the work then sub contracted out to the lowest price cowboy builders that the company can find. The "guarantee" will probably be full of exclusions and barely worth the paper that it is written on. It will probably also require regular checks on the coating.
There are rendered houses close to my home that have not received any coating since being built in the 1980s. Hence ordinary, cheap coatings can last 30 years. However, they show discolouring, areas of mould, and blockwork joints - but all these items would probably be excluded from the Weatherguard guarantee for they are not defects with the coating.
To benefit from any 15 year guarantee the Weatherguard company would need to be trading for the next 15 years, which is unlikely. Either that or get the guarantee insurance backed - but this may not be offered.
I would be suggesting that you approach a reputable decorating merchant like PPG Group (sell Leyland and Johnstone), or a Crown Trade Centre, or similar, and discuss your requirements with them. Follow the Technical Recommendations to the letter and you will automatically have a "guarantee", in the form of a reputable, genuine comeback should something go wrong.0 -
The way I see it is that if someone so called big company need to do a letter drop through your door then they are not what they say they are, not as good or out to take your money.
A company like this weathershield should not need to do this. I was looking into it and found their methods questionable. They knocked, I said I may be interested in a quote. The guy took my number went to the phone box to ring his boss. His boss rang me to arrange a survey. Over priced and poor methods of cleaning in roof etc.
If your a one man band or small local company, fair play for letter dropping as they are looking for business and expand. You can easy tell the difference.0 -
Thanks for the responses. I did wonder in terms of guarantee etc and exclusions. Was also suspicious of the fact that if they are all that they are cracked up to be, why are more people not using them.0

I dimly remember a big scandal about these wall coatings. The problem is that the wall cannot breathe as the coating is plasticised.
I painted my house with two coats of Dulux Weathershield last summer and it looks great. If using a wall coatin, I would do a lot of research.Je suis sabot...0
