Changing 'net connection

Problem my OH has:

"When not using my mobile - I'm using laptop with IR link, inbuilt modem and 'Sprint Remote Access' - it roams the 'net for free dial-up connections. It's good because the connection is free but the speed is 9.6kbps ! I know the GPRS(e) connection is faster (300+) and the IR link is certainly a lot faster. Sprint Remote Access has an option for GPRS connection but I'm buggered if I know how to change it"

Anyone any ideas ?

I know GPRS and IR is relatively fast but what speed is your inbuilt modem? Does it say in the manual? Perhaps thats the fastest speed for your mobile phone.

In addition, your using free services. if its anything like the free free free internet dialups we had a few years ago, they're always slow.
