Pip - Appeal stage advice

Hello all,
I am looking for advice regarding the appeal stage for PIP for my partner. The claim was made resulting in an award for standard rate of care and nil for mobility. Having looked at the decision notice and being knowledgable of the descriptors we asked for a reconsideration giving thorough explanations of each descriptor we disagreed with giving some strong examples of where things have gone wrong in day to day life and this was turned down. (At lightning speed I might add - turn around was under 2 weeks!)
Now its time to appeal. We will be submitting a similar type of document with similar evidence and will include a weekly diary and meds list but my main concern is the stress levels that these processes cause my partner and the negative effect on her health. My question is can we submit a paper only appeal or could I represent at the appeal so that my partner does not have to attend and risk her health further?
Thank you in advance!

The tribunal will really want to see your partner.
If they wish, you can represent them at the tribunal.
You can specify that you wish a paper only hearing - however the tribunal should ask you to attend if they believe they cannot come to an accurate decision without it.
In practice - it is more likely that a positive decision will be made if the claimant attends, than a paper tribunal.0 -
Very much appreciate your reply and it makes perfect sense.
Its difficult in weighing up the pros of attending and the cons of the repercussions on health. Perhaps the only options left to consider are either attending with my partner or representing on my own and stay away from the paper only option.
Thanks for taking the time to advise!0 -
This is a good overview of the process - relates to all appeals not just for mental illnesses
