Lever taps on bath....your views?

We're finally replacing our ancient bathroom suite and our plumber has recommended a set of Nero lever mixer taps, as he says that he has fitted loads of them and not had any complaints.

We will be getting rid of our old electric shower and just using the mixer taps (combi boiler, downstairs bathroom, good pressure) but I've used lever taps many times and I don't think that you can get as good a degree of control over the water flow. I don't want to be faffing around with hot and cold taps at 6am when I'm trying to have a shower! I'm also not very keen on the water hose hanging down from the mixer unit, as opposed to poking out from the top, would that not make it harder for the water to reach the shower hose?

My husband says I'm just being old-fashioned and that I don't like anything new (probably true), so I'm interested in other opinions.

I know that Bristan taps are supposed to be a good brand, and the plumber has raved about them. They do look good but to be honest, anything would look good compared to what we have now!

Thanks.

Find another plumber who will recommend the correct item

You need a thermostatic bath shower mixer . That mixer will constantly bounce in temperature

Something like a hansgrohe ecostar bath shower mixer either deck or wall mounted would be a far superior option

That kind of shower is ok-ish if you want something for rinsing your hair while sat in the bath, but wouldn't think of it as a main shower?

I have similar tap for the bath (minus shower obv) then a proper thermostatic shower mixer above the bath (pipework concealed with a stud wall), that shower has permanent over head shower head and a hand held one that can then use when sat in the bath..
  • Now I like lever taps as I can operate them from a reclined position with my toes.........but mixer showers are rubbish. Always were and always will be. You need a proper thermostatic shower with dedicated hot and cold feed. Anything else is a bodge.
