Anyone else apply for and have M&S Card with £30 incentive declined?

I applied for the above card after seeing it advertised on MSE. My application was declined despite a 90% assurance of approval. I have no outstanding debts, am registered on the electoral roll and have rented the property in which I reside for the last eight years. I have NEVER before had a card application refused. Has anyone else had the same experience? I understand that M&S have the right to refuse but surely must give a reasonable reason for that refusal?

They don't have to give you a reason, you probably just don't fit their current customer profile. You can always appeal the decision, some people have been successful with this with some providers.

Have you checked your credit files recently? If not perhaps it is worth a look.

Did they give any reason?

They do, for example, have to tell you if the decision was based on negative CRA data.

I applied also using the MSE link. I got an email 26 Feb saying they would get back to me in 3-5 days. I had heard nothing since until today.

I got a letter in the post to say I have been accepted.
I called them to clarify re: voucher offer.

The voucher can be claimed only once the new card is used…. before 31st March then a voucher will be emailed to me by end of April.
