Can I ask for a partial refund?

Hi all, purchased a mobile phone through ebay a month ago which was sold as excellent condition. I recieved the phone three weeks ago and switched it on, all in good condition, worked okay for the 2/3 minutes I used it.
I've gone to properly use the phone today and it is far from excellent condition. Yes, it's a second-hand phone but the battery is pretty much dead and despite fully charging is lasting 1-2 hours of use before emptying. I'm going to have to buy a new battery now to get any sort of use out of the phone.
I'm a bit miffed that this wasn't mentioned in the item description - how best to proceed? Am I in the right to ask for a partial refund (£10-£12) to buy a replacement battery? As I say, if this was mentioned in the item description, I'd obviously have sucked it up but this is ridiculous even for these modern day phones!

There is no harm in asking , the seller does not have to agree though.
Many sellers will just want you to return it for a refund rather than mess about with partials.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If you let the battery die then its possible you caused the damage to the battery, They dont like being left in a discharged state.
If storing a mobile battery its best to charge them to approx 80%. Stored fully charged or low charge will reduce the battery life.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
To be fair when I switched the phone on yesterday it said it was at 80% then it went down rapidly over the course of an hour, got to 10%, the screen flickered and then it died. I'm now charging it, getting an hour or so use out of it and having to recharge again. The battery seems completely drained - I've read a few things and it seems like a new battery is needed.
There was no mention of anything like this in the item description. So whilst it's only £10 (I'd rather not pay it though) it would have been nice to have been warned.0
