Child Tax Credits declaration whilst on SMP

Options
Hi all,

Posting on behalf of my gf (not partner as thats different in the eyes of HMRC ;) )

LO was born May '13: as we dont live together nor are we married, my gf claimed single claim CTC/WTC: on the form she was asked income: so £14k P.A from 2012-2013, Then the difficulty started: from May 2013- 2014 she was on Maternity Leave, so when it came to fill in the 2014-2015 renewal form her income was £8590 (i still think she entered it wrongly as she was unaware of the -£100 per week when on SMP) but lets leave that..
this year when she returns her form (p60 details will be used to ensure gross income is correct) she will put £14k again as she went back to work April 2014..

she received £115.66 p/w from April 14 to Nov 14, then after that, she started to get £135 p/w. Are WCTC prone to change mid-year? she never thought to phone at the time to query, as she thought it must be right if its being paid :A

she is now rather worried that she has been overpaid and we cant phone them until monday due to work patterns, and they wont speak to me obviously as im not on the claim.

At the beginning of the 2014-2015 tax year, she did call HMRC and double check the figures she was needed to enter and they confirmed £8590, and they "made a note" of her income being >£5k higher in the next tax year due to returning to work.

i have done a general WCTC eligibility calculator on the HMRC website, and i understand its kind of difficult to get a proper result this late in the tax year, but it estimates based on 1 child, single parent, earning £8590, she should be receiving £158.77 a week? which is more than shes actually getting anyways?!

Thanks for taking time to read this, and responding.

Regards

works 42hours per week, no childcare costs, and no disabilities

on the awards notice the amount of income is £8590

however further down the awards notice it does state "you have unil 05/04/2015 to let us know about any changes in income, after this date we may make overpayments to you due to the income being incorrect and a review will be undertaken"

so as long as she calls them to make them aware that 2014-2015 she earnt 14k not 8.5k, it will adjust itself?
  • Does it say that is the income used for the calculation?

Is there no mention of the £14,000?

Tax credits calculated on £9,000 is approx £134 per week.

Tax credits calculated on £8590 is approx £137 per week so unsure why the calculator is giving you more than this.

no mention whatsoever of £14k anywhere that i can see, she received £136.88 yesterday and has received that figure for the last few weeks.
