paying off old debts

Hi everyone

I have recently been brave enough to look at my credit file. It's really not good, in fact, its abysmal. I paid off £30k in debt by way of a DAS about 2 years ago now and knew because of this my credit rating would be awful. Anyway there are a couple of mail order accounts which have defaulted from about 3 years ago (not sure how I missed them when I signed up for the DAS but I did) They are both less than £100 each and I want to pay them off. I have never received any debt letters regarding these debts. Should I just contact the companies I had the account with to clear these debts and will they be happy to settle for the defaulted amount or will they be looking to add fees and interest.

Really not sure what to do here so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

  • Who reports the accounts to your credit file? Original company or a debt collector?

When were they last updated on your credit file? Does the outstanding amount differ from the default amount?
