Jewson Gold Partner Card

Hi everyone,
I've just signed up for a Jewson Gold Partner Card via Countryside online magazine i'm subscribed to, and just wondered if anyone else had one, and what the real life savings are like?
It states up to 80% off building materials, and free delivery on every order...
Building an extension this year, so wanting to make back my £41.50 subscription if nothing else on the materials.
Any one had any experience?
Mike

I have years of experience with Jewson, with their accounts systems and with the department that they run aimed at self builders. My advice is to avoid Jewson for they are a shambolic nightmare. My experience with Buildbase, with Travis Perkins with local independent merchants has been excellent, so please take this post as a balanced response with no bias!
I have no experience of the Jewson Gold Partner Card, nor would I be tempted to apply for one. The statement "up to 80% off building materials" is meaningless. A savvy consumer shops around the builders merchants seeking good service and good prices. If you find a merchant that is good then there is commercial sense in putting much, but not all, of your purchases through them.0 -
Well the card itself is a freebie as part of a subscription, so I've nothing to lose.
I agree, Jewsons aren't the best, and Buildbase have got back to me far quicker. Travis perkins are a nightmare near me, never again!
So far I've not found one place which has everything cheapest. Currently my materials list has around 15 suppliers!0 -

You will not find one place with the cheapest everything, anymore than Sainsbury or Tesco will be the cheapest on everything. These are commercial businesses that need to return a profit. It is in your interests to negotiate the prices down by offering the chance of an almost exclusive supply situation. Hence the builders merchant makes an overall profit from the volume, or quantity, of materials supplied to you. They will also make an acceptable profit from the items that you have forgotten to list, but will have to buy on impulse, or at short notice. Think of shovels, nails, screws, adhesives, etc.0
