AutoAid problems

Since joining AutoA some years ago I have been extolling their virtues to friends and family - but have never used them myself. However, last week my niece and bf had a problem with their brakes on a newish hyundai i20. Calling AutoA they waited for some 2 hours before the recovery turned up and proceeded to take them home (Devizes to Sw London).Apparantly the guy did nothing to check what the problem was but only took them and their car as far as Fleet services in hampshire. As far as I can gather they had to wait several hours for another recovery to take them the rest od the way. Has anyone any experience of this? I have checked their T's & C's and can see nothing about this there.i don't yet know what they were charged. I do know that RAC used to do this years ago -ie county border to county border but didn't think aa would do this. Any thoughts?

Very unlikely a brake problem would be repaired at the roadside. Presumably they described the problem to auto aid who chose to send recovery rather than roadside assistance then recovery.
If auto aid refund for the recovery in full does the split recovery matter?. Its unfortunate there was a second two hour delay which could possibly have been avoided by better planning.0 -
Without knowing what the problem was we can not determine if it could have been fixed at the side of the road or not. Many break problems could, many couldn't. I'd atleast expect the guy to look it over.0

Isn't a newish Hyundai covered by a 5 year RAC policy?0

Autoaid do a shuttle recovery service for longer journeys, so the changeover is quite normal, although usually it's at the same time you are dropped off by one you're collected by the other.
I think RAC/AA do the same for very long journeys?Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

AA do the same. Happened to my pal coming back to Scotland from London. He was dropped in Newcastle for a few hours while the next truck arrived. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0

Fairly common place among the breakdown companies that on longer journeys people may get shuttled between differing recovery vehicles etc. Sometimes the driver tacho hours can get in the way of being able to do a complete journey (remembering they have to come back too so it can then leave them a vehicle down if the guy has to stop for a mandatory rest etc).0

So how does that work with AutoAid? Do you have to keep paying for each leg of the journey?0

No, I can't remember but it either the first or last driver that took my credit card details and I signed the form.
I had the money back within 10 days -top service!Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

Years ago recovery drivers would take you long distances in one hit and lap up the overtime.
Now recovery drivers are subject to EU regs/working hours/tacho and are limited. So if you break down a long way from home your journey could be fragmented into availability of drivers with hours. The man without a signature.0
