Storing things under loft insulation

Wondering if this is a really clever or really dumb idea!!

Basically I have a load of my wife's shoes that I need somewhere to store out of season. I read it is a bad idea to store them in the attic as the heat and cold is bad for the leather.

In the loft we have two layers of insulation one between the beams and one above.

I wa thinking I could store them in boxes between the two layers of insulation.

They wouldn't be pressing the insulation down as I would store on the beams.

Am I clever or dumb! Thoughts please.

Dave

I like your idea regardless of whether you can keep them there or not, I sometimes feel like I am living with shoes in my house, I have put them all in the under stair storage and my wife is not really happy about it, but then I told her if they are not here they are out of the house as there is literally no other space, She gave up finally.
Bags and Shoes fill my house up.

Thanks might just try it with a couple of less cherished pairs and see if there are any ill effects!

    OK. Your off your chump.

Just put the boxes in the loft and assuming there is plenty of ventilation they will be fine. If necessary build a platform above the insulation.

Compressing the insulation reduces its effectiveness..

    Ha ha thanks :-)

I am not planning to compact any insulation in any way. The lower later of insulation comes up to the top of the beems I would then lay the boxes acoss the beams so not compacting the insulation at all follows by the next layer of insulation.

The loft is very airy but gets very cold so my thinking is storing the boxes between the insulation layers should keep the leather at a more stable temperature!

Temperature is not an issue, dampness is and I doubt you will need to worry about that.

Not to mention fibreglass fragments getting into the shoes-they're a skin irritant.

This idea may or may not cause problems for the shoes, but it will certainly cause problems for the insulation of your home.

As it stands the rolls of insulation lie side by side, on a roughly level surface consisting of the joists and lower layer of insulation.

You plan to change this so some of the upper layer of insulation is sitting on boxes of shoes instead. The variation in levels will mean there will be gaps between the insulation and heat will get out. I am confident you will pay for this rather silly idea by higher heating bills!

I'm all for thinking outside the box, but I don't think this will work in practice.
