    Thoughts are the onus is on you to prove to them you have paid the balance off if you believe it was done in cash...

    The fact that you've got this after 2 years could suggest they have a new accounts manager and or they themselves aren't sure if you paid. You could reply with " I believe I paid this in cash" , and see what happens.

    Let's not be wooly about it. Reply with "This was paid in cash at the time of cancellation" and let them dispute it if they believe otherwise.

    Alternatively, given that it's just an email, ignore it. People change email addresses all the time, and emailing an address that you haven't mailed for two years is rather optimistic to say the least. Keep an eye on your credit rating though.

    In the interests of honesty, bearing in mind the op can't remember if he paid cash, I still stand by my original post.

    I didn't think it prudent to go down the " ignore it" route as in general this is not good advice to hand out to people who owe money.
