    Gumtree = con artist paradise.

    This is a common scam, glad you didn't fall for it.

  • Welcome to the world of the internet, This will continue to happen and while the vast majority are scams there are also a handful that are actually genuine buyers that want to buy an item for sale.

    I have sold a few items on Gumtree over the years normally cars and the likes and used to get all the scam emails, texts and even calls so now I make it clear in the post by stating the following.

    No dodgy emails, texts or calls offering me a larger than the sale amount cheque or other scam you guys dream up as you will be told where to go. ( Seems to deter them from my adverts )

    I am busy speaking to a person email address is thomashook01@gmail.com who is also trying this on with me. I am busy winding them up (I have also reported him to the police fraud dept, but I doubt they will do anything) by saying that I have paid him and sent a copy of a really bad image of a moneygram receipt I found off google.

    I got the mail about 30 mins after posting my car for sale on gumtree.

    I really hope no one has fallen for this.
