Thursday 26 February - What small DFW things will you do today?

Options
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important:money:

Thanks for starting us off Ziggy :)

I didn't get round to posting yesterday as I had my hands full with 14 month old GD all day so not much else got done :) We even ended up getting a takeaway so not moneysaving at all :o

    Anyway, onwards and upwards today:
Check banks - must do this as I haven't for a few days.

Text DS, as it is his birthday today :)Done

Buy some milk from the corner shop as there is unlikely to be anything else to tempt me there! Done

Arrange for a couple of freecyclers to come and pick up some of the junk I have decluttered Well, I have emailed them, but they haven't got back yet :( Why do I always pick the ones who mess about? If I haven't heard from them by tomorrow morning I will reoffer to others. Still, I listed a vast heap of decluttered cookery books this afternoon, and someone asked for them and came within a couple of hours to pick them up - so now the sofa is available for sitting again :)

Declutter some more junk, I am doing the kitchen at the moment, which is possibly the worst room  I have sorted out a big box of baking pans, utensils etc which I have freecycled, and hope will go today, and some Le Creuset items which might sell in my unit. I can now see into my cupboards :D The worktops are next, so I am going to move everything into the dining room, clean them down and decide what goes back and where.... I still have the box of stuff, but have taken the le Creuset things to my unit. I have done the worktops, put out some more things for disposal and switched things round. It looks much better now :D

Try and ring HMRC about daft coding notice  If, as is likely, I can't get through, I will write to them. Done, I got through straight away and the lady seemed really helpful, so let's hope it gets sorted out as quickly she suggested it would :D

    HM meals from stores Done

Start a proper shopping list for the weekend My job for this evening :)

Help OH move a load of logs that he is going to collect today. No sitting about again today :eek:For various reasons he didn't get them. Will try again tomorrow.
  • I'm back! After 4 weeks of flu and chest infection / bronchitis I'm finally back on my feet and ready to attack the debt again. Unfortunately, it did mean that last month got slightly out of hand money wise as I wasn't cooking much and DH had a lot of child entertaining to do which usually involves days out with cake!

So, back to it. Today I will be...
*updating YNAB (this is what actually kept us on track!)
    *cooking dinner from what's in
*start looking at plans for the 2017 big holiday!
*start trying to claim some money back for PPI

There's not an awful lot there as I'm in work today and forgot to pick up my lunch so I'm not doing awfully well for my first day back.

Twiggy, it's a good job we know your back story or I may raise an eyebrow quizzically at your staying the night at boss statement ;)

Ziggy -Glad nothing is too put out.

Sally -sorry you were knocked off track by illness. If it helps at all you are not alone. So many regulars have been struck down with the lurgy. Good luck getting back to it now.

Dawn -oh well the odd takeaway won't kill the overall efforts you make. Sounds like it was well deserved.

Me today. Am at my shop again, this time with a carpenter. This is the last day of paid work the insurance company are providing so after that were on our own. There are various things to finish but until he goes today we won't really have a clear picture of what we need to complete ourselves. They are also coming to remove all the waste today. So hopefully we'll end this week with clear space to work in and a clear idea for the first time since all this began on when we may reopen.

I was here for 9 so brought coffee and toast with me. Packed son's after school snacks and my own lunch and bits.
I will have to go out and buy a hot drink soon as it's freezing here and I don't have any facilities to make a drink. Plus I'm sort of at the end of what I actually can get done today.
Apparently one of my invoices has been paid but bit of confusion on the other...
Big payday tommorow so looking forward to some more debt slaying and budget fine tuning.
My big plan at the moment is to pay off £1100 in April which should be possible. However best laid plans and all...It is part of my plan to shift the entire debt by xmas so I really hope to stick to that.

    Have a good day all.

    Hello Frugal People,
I'd hoped to spend today clearing, sweeping & re-arranging our courtyard now that Spring is around the corner, but it has really chucked down with rain all morning so too soggy to go ahead with that. Never mind, always plenty to do, some of it money saving:
*Saved a tiny bit of energy by sharing bath water, turning a radiator down a notch & switching 3 things off that don't really need to go on again till tonight.
*Cleaned whole house using minimal products (though I'll soon need to replace my annual bottle of 'Stardrops')
*Did meal plans for next week.
*Finalized what I'm going to bake for the weekend when we have visitors coming, prioritising ingredients we already have in stock.
*Started de-cluttering today's 26 items. Will finish this task later this afternoon.
*We're low on fruit, so I stewed some of our home-grown rhubarb from the freezer & portioned it up, which seemed more money saving than popping out to buy more fresh fruit before shopping day.
*Gathered together all receipts, statements, notes, etc, ready for tomorrow which is pay-day so also my Big Budget Day.
*Found a couple more bits for ebay, but think I'll wait till the weekend for listing them.
*NSD as not my car day & I don't feel like getting soaked, so all free leisure activity for me today.
    Have a good day, all.
Bobarella - Sounds like you've had a proper nightmare at your shop. Was it a flood? Hope it's all coming together now for you, anyway. You certainly both seem to be putting a lot of work & effort in, so good luck from me for the re-opening.
    Bye for now,

Yum I love stewed rhubarb. One amazing tray bake I had once was marzipan and rhubarb. I have never forgotten it. So good.:T#

Yes, serious water damage in any case. Thanks Foxgloves, I do hope this year will be a good one. But when I read some others on here with small businesses. I realise how well I have done to walk out of this one unscathed financially. Much of which comes down to sticking rigidly to a budget month after month even when large sums have appeared in my business account, ignoring them, making them go even further. It has stood us in good stead for the reopen, but now I need luck too which is a massive factor for small business. Fingers crossed.
