O/S Daily Thursday 26th February 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning all,

Seems to be a bit milder here this morning although I have not been outside yet.

Off to work for me stressful day on Thursday as its difficult clients so I shall no doubt be very tired tonight, still only two more days till the weekend.

OH went over to dd's yesterday and fitted chains to all her doors and window locks so I feel she is more secure now which puts my mind at rest a bit.

Something with chips for dinner tonight, either scampi or Kiev's see what we fancy later. I need to do a wash tonight and my shopping is being delivered.

    Have good days all xx

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, dry cloudy and a bit breezy – may get washing dry on the line. Load in WM.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 unwell and staying in bed. DS2 now getting up and ready for school.

Dinner last night was a naughty egg, bacon, sausage etc – tonight will be pasta with smoked sausage etc.

Got some jobs done yesterday and will continue today – I’ll be trying to get the washing, drying and ironing done and the housework – want to change all the beds too. I will sit later and check cupboards and freezers to then construct a menu plan for the next week. We have to take caravan to have some work done on it on Sat morning and then collect it later and we want to take it to get it washed and on Sunday we have a meeting to go to about 45 minutes away, we’re going to pick our friends up on the way. So things to be done over the weekend.

    Have good Thursdays’ everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning :hello:

I spotted a rat stealing the chicken feed – I was hoping it was a water vole, we've had those before, so I kept watch for a couple of days to make sure (it was moving so fast I couldn't tell to start with) and it's definitely a rat. It was taking the food under the little shelter we built for the chickens, so I thought there might be a nest and it was taking food for babies. We pulled it apart last night and dug right down, found a stash of food but no rats. Eventually we found a rat run going between us and our neighbour's garden so I'm going to put poison down today. The run goes under a large storage box next to the fence so I can put the poison down without it being a danger to the chickens. Bit miffed that we were out in the wind and rain, freezing and wet, taking down the shelter for no reason - and now we have to rebuild it :D

I've planted cucumbers and broad beans in small pots, they'll live in the kitchen for now. Leeks and sprouts will be sorted today, not sure where I'm going to put them though, I'm running out of room :D The potatoes are chitting well too.

My hands are very dry and my nails are brittle, probably from spending all that time playing with compost :D Once I've potted today's seeds, I won't have any to do for a while so I'll give my hands some TLC later and hope they improve quicky.

Completely OT – wasn't Paloma Faith fab at the Brits last night?

    Morning All

Chilly and wet again - when will it ever end? Yesterday was so promising to start with and then went downhill!

Packed lunches made, one load of washing on the airer, the other about to finish. DW can go on when I get in tonight, it wasn't quite full enough yesterday.

Need to phone about the wardrobe and also the car garage, I am thinking of changing the car.

Have a good safe day. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone.

Today is my birthday and I am not at work. I've taken the rest of the week off so I can have a long weekend. My big present is an entry level DSLR camera which has a load of switches, knobs and functions. It'll be good to get some better pictures.

We're going out for lunch here in Glasgow and then heading home. Already got the car 'packed' with cake, cards and presents. Will be imbibing something fizzy tonight too so I can see sensible eating going out the window.

Tru - my nails were awful just before winter, nails splitting and snapping. Eventually it all came down to massaging the cuticles every day, I began using proper commercial nail cream though soon worked out that it's the massaging and not the cream which makes a difference. And it is a huge difference.

Right, time for a cuppa. Hope everyone has a great day.

    Good morning everyone

It's a very wet and windy day here today. My DD's have actually worn a coat to school!

Well yesterday's eating went completely to pot as I was so stressed. I ended up buying a Chinese takeaway which I threw away loads of because it wasn't very nice so a massive fail both dietary and financially. I have decided to move on now and just climb back on the wagon and not worry about weigh-in as it isn't till Monday anyway.

My eldest DD came round and I talked to her about what I'd heard about her new boyfriend but she dismissed my concerns and pointed out that she was a red-belt in her martial arts and was more likely to hurt him if he so much as laid a finger on her. She then told me that he had been in prison some years back for drink driving and that he was banned from a certain local pub for fighting but he had been in counselling for a while for his anger issues and grief over losing his mum and sister to suicide. She thinks he is lovely and she said he has treated her with nothing but respect but I am still very worried. I hope none of you mind me writing all this down, it's just I have no one in real life to talk to about this. Anyway I shall change the subject now.

I didn't manage to get anything done yesterday due to the roofers. I couldn't get to my crochet class because they had set up a conveyor belt right in the middle of my path to get the tiles up onto the roof and I couldn't get past it to go out but I messaged the lady who is running the class and she is quite happy for me to start next week instead. I am usually quite a quick learner so I am hopeful that I can catch up with everyone else. I am really looking forward to it as I would love to make things for my grandchildren.

I am going to make the cumberland pie today that I didn't get round to doing yesterday for tea. I am planning on a very healthy day with lots of fruit and vegetables to make up for yesterday. I won't dwell on it though as that is pointless. I hope the family will like it, it's hard when you make something new and they eye it with suspicion :D. I'm hoping the grandchildren will come over after school as well as I haven't seen much of them this week and I miss them.

Well that's all from me today, before I forget, Happy Birthday Gers, hope you have a really enjoyable day.

    Take care xx
  • Morning All.
Well been MIA for a while due to working stupid hours and lots of overtime. Upshot of this is im now off work with a bad back which i hate as i am not one to rest up. Well at least the overtime pay will make up the wages lost from not working.
Not much going to happen here today due to the bad back, apart from sitting on laptop sorting money issues and watching some boring daytime tv (will be biting at the bit to get back to work lol)
Anyhoos hugs to all in need x
    Bright Blessings xx
