Possibly but doesn't mean you will always be able to go and find it right away.

l think now they are just going through the motions (lip service) but the decision has been made to accommodate those returning to work.

PILON - stands for Pay in Lieu of Notice - that is depending how long a person has been working for the employee, normally the employee is entitled to a certain period of notice and be paid for that time. However, once the procedures have all been exhausted they may issue a termination of employment in say a weeks time, or even the end of the day!
But, Employment Law means that they have to give PILON - when I was made redundant - they attempted to only give me a months PILON, fortunately I had the print-out from the Government website - showing - three months ( it's graded depending on length of service).

I would think ten years would equal three months.

Indeed that in theory is what the redundancy is for!
JSA doesn't give much - runs out in six-months, I got a new job in five and a half.

The law is that one either is employed for the notice period (and hence is paid for it) or is paid instead of being employed.

The print-out would have shown you were entitled to 12 weeks' notice, not 3 months (although if your contract had said 3 months (= 13 weeks), 3 months would have been the notice period as contractual notice can be longer than statutory (but not shorter).

If someone has completed ten years' service, they are entitled to 10 weeks statutory notice (but are entitled to more if their contract says so).

I sure we are all indebted to the nitpicking info.

Your post included inaccurately recalled information and a guess.

Mine had facts - which you could check if you like.

Which would be better for people to read if they are about to confront their employer?

Ah, so you're ok with giving knowingly bad information.....

OP asked what PILON - i.e. what the acronym stood for - that I answered.
I also mentioned I showed my employer a Government (website) print-out - I don't think the employer would take much notice of what is said on this website.
Therefore, the OP armed with a bit of info can do a bit of research - www.dwp.gov.uk would be a good place to start and hence find the exact information.

My final sentence is not a definite statement, i.e. you will get three months - note the operative 'I would think'.
Now we don't what their offer will be - but if like mine it was a month, and being given the idea it'll be 13 weeks, I don't think they'll mind too much if it was only 12 or 10 - but you may think differently!

Just wanted to thank you all for your help. OH is now in his final days they wanted him to work 4 weeks notice (and they are the ones making him go) but he said no he wanted to leave asap but they still get 2 weeks out of him.

l just have 1 more question because his friends keep asking him how the company can run a building without someone maintaining it as this is part of his job (they are getting someone part-time / didn't offer his the job as he is over qualified) So my question is say in 6 months just as a ball point figure the company do suddenly realise that they need someone full-time and they advertise would they able to do this having said that they no longer need anyone to do this job?

I have tried looking at websites and some say they can't do this and others say they can do what they like so which is true after all this is peoples lives they are playing with - l know there is no such thing as a job for life but we all have to work and we do it to the best of our ability and employers can just get rid of you when it suits them making you redundant even when the job is still there and just load it onto other people who don't know what to do or want the extra work as they already have more than enough to do - at least that is how l am beginning to see things.

Sorry for going on but this has come as a real shock and we just don't know what we are going to do if he can't get another job and my job isn't that well paid either.
