Went through red lights but no flashing camera.

Hey

I was driving in the lane as the green filter was giving the clear to go left, boyfriend quickly said "no go straight ahead" i did and realised i went through red lights! Really silly i know. Im terrified that I will get caught! Thing is, no flash went off as there was no flashy camera, but there is CCTV pointing towards me. What are the chances I will get caught? For example will someone review the CCTV and see this and add 3 points to the license? I am so worried as points will affect my job.

Regards

First wait and see if you get any notification - Not all authorities are grared-up for enforcement off CCTV and even then, those who can don't utilise every camera on every junction, so until they give you notice, there is absolutely no point in stressing-out.

A sufty through the LA website might be the bst way to see if they have clearance to use CCTV.

Also the lack of a flashing camera means nothing - The more modern systems don't use visible light for illumination.

ok, worrying is an understatement. I think my career plans/future hinge on this. I checked the road and there was no camera only the pedestrian sensors etc. The only one I could see was in front which I think monitors general traffic and bus lanes. My friends think I should be ok, but thats not really re-assuring.

Unfortunately there is little advice that can be given apart from advising you to wait. If you are to be successfully proceeded against for failing to stop at the red light then you would have to be served with a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP), or at least one would have to be served on the registered keeper of the vehicle you were driving, within 14 days of the offence.

An NIP is often combined with a formal requirement (under s.172 Road Traffic Act) to identify the driver at the time of an alleged offence. If one does come your way then you have 28 days in which to respond. Don't mess up as failing to reply or failing to clearly identify the driver may result in a separate offence and that carries a mandatory 6 points and what is inevitably a hefty fine.

Unless you are hanging by a thread in terms of potential "totting" on your driving licence (8 points or more, less than 12) then I can't see how a simple red light offence is going to affect your whole future. That being said only you know what your circumstances are but I have a feeling that you may well be worrying far too much.

If there is no fixed camera (red light camera - not just a CCTV one) and no sign of a police vehicle then in all probability you will have slipped through the net.

My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016). :(

For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com

Post a link to google streetview so we can see if there is a camera.

As far as I am aware the CCTV cameras operated by the council can not issue fines for driving through red lights or add points to your licence. The council can issue fines for bus lane misuse etc.
