several questions, late fathers accounts

ive tried searching for lost accounts in my late fathers name, but im finding the my lost account site a bit hit and miss. the search I have going currently still hasn't returned results from Nationwide for instance, and it been running about 3-4 weeks now.


the other problem is I found an account at Barclays via a chat with a utility company. now Barclays said they had no accounts, this is partly true, as the account had been closed by the step brother. who may be subject to a criminal investigation soon.


what I suppose I need to know is, how reliable is this site or the banks that respond to it? if for instance I put a middle name and my Dad didn't open the account using his middle name are they clever enough to figure that out?

It's pretty reliable - but it can take 3 months or more for them to reply.

It might be worth combining it with a common sense approach - visit all the banks and building societies in the town where your father lived, with something proving you're the executor of the estate, and ask them to search there and then.
