Thinking of selling my old laptop on eBay

I have a couple of old laptops which I'd like to put on eBay. They are prob only good for spares or repair, which is why they are no longer used.

I don't think they even fire up, I think one has a screen which doesn't show anything. In which case, I can't delete anything off it.

If I wanted to sell them, how do I go about removing any personal data from it first?

Even if I binned them both, I'd still need to do that right??
Just thought I'd list them even if they go for a couple of quid.

Any ideas what I need to do?
Thanks in advance

Either take a hammer and rusty nail to the hard drive, or buy a cradle for the hard drive that you can attach to another PC and delete the data yourself.

best thing to do is to remove the HDD from inside and then list it as it is

also worth trying a local facebook group my local one theres always someone asking for old laptops etc so maybe worth having a look

    Remove the hard disk drive.
If you can't figure where that is, drive a black & decker drill bit through in a systematic pattern until the laptop dribbles black dust. Your hard disk should now be unreadable.

Do not take unnecessary risks with personal data.

    Ok great thank you
  • I'd just wipe the hard drive and list them on Gumtree, provided you don't share hobbies with Gary Glitter what is there to fear?

    DON'T DRILL THE HARD DRIVE.

Why not take the opportunity to educate yourself a little and disassemble it to see what it looks like inside.
Standard Hard Drives are fairly interesting when you see what's inside the box...

If you do take out the hard drive, remove it from its mountings and put them back in the laptop; the laptop is useless without them.
