Using a slow cooker when out?

Options
I know this is possible, but I'm still a bit paranoid...is it really safe to do so? I have a Tefal 8-in-1. I'm wondering if I can put the main food (meat, veg, etc) on in the morning, go to work, and then come back and put the rice on in a separate compartment..hmm. I'm just too scared to leave it running whilst I'm away for 10 hours, but have you guys done it?

Thats what slow cookers are designed for, I always do it in the winter.

I even put mine on last year and forgot to put the food in it, when I got home 8 hours later it was hot but hadn't broken.

If you are unsure why not put something in it over the weekend when you are at home just to reassure you.

You leave the fridge on yes?

I leave the washing machine on if I'm popping out too - but a lot of people don't do that.

Its fine. Mine never boiled dry if you start with a decent amount of water.

As for house fire. If my house is going to burn down, I rather be out and not in it :)

I often pop out for a few hours when running my slow cooker or dehydrator and it's always been fine, but I'm a bit nervous about doing a full work day too.

I don't go out and leave the washing machine on.

I use a timer so it comes on a bit later in the day rather than putting it on before I head off for work. Don't like overcooked veg, as much as anything.

I am super scared of everything. Not only do I not go out and leave the washing machine running, I've not even got the b4lls to turn it on at all!!

And I bought a SC. I've always been here when I've had it running (that's an option, use it to build up confidence when you're going to be in), but I'd be prepared to go out - except then I'd worry in case I woke up in Hospital 3 weeks later and it'd have been left running for 3 weeks.

I've never (and I've searched) so far found any instance where a SC has done anything bad while people were out.

I always used to put my dishwasher on before i went to bed. Until one evening i decided to put it on earlier. After hearing a couple of pops and the lights dimming, i went in my kitchen to find it full of smoke. The heater in the dishwasher had burnt out and caught fire. Luckily it burned itself out but i never switch it on now before bed. I never leave the washer on either for the same reason.
  • I very often leave my slow cooker on when I go out. For years I have taken my slow cooker on our camping hloidays and leave it on in the tent while we are out for the day.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.
