Hi there,
I bought 'nike air zoom pegasus' last week and ran half a marathon with them. as it was really muddy, my trainers got very dirty and I put them in the washing machine on a small cycle and washed them and they came out damaged. I contacted Nike for a exchange and they told me that since I washed them in the washing machine, the warranty has voided and I wont get a refund or exchange. But no where on the website it says that my warranty would be voided if I washed them in the washing machine and they says that they dont 'recommend' me not washing my trainers this way but do not clearly states that DO NOT do so.
what are my rights here and would can I do more? I paid nearly £100 for my trainers a week ago and now they are unwearable
thanks guys
daniel

None, IMO.
You didn't read the care instructions that came with them.0 -

really? Maybe you should have tried trainer cleaner, available in all supermarkets or dry cleaners.
If you really thought that washing them in the washing machine was a good idea, then Nike are certainly not to blame!0 -
What damage was done?0
-
I dont clean mine, subsequent running in them cleans them off..0

Yes, what damage? I have always washed my trainers in the washing machine and they have always come out in the same -clean-condition.0

The advice on how to clean trainers here http://help-en-gb.nike.com/app/answers/detail/article/productcare-shoes/a_id/28677/p/3897/snav/p/navt/Product%20Care%20%26%20Repair is quite clear and it clearly says they don't recomend the washing machine. As you didn't follow the guidance there on their recommendation then really they don't have to repair them0 -
I've always machine washed my trainers when they get smelly or dirty and I've never managed to destroy a pair yet. I wouldn't be impressed with the quality of a pair of trainers that couldn't stand up to a spin cycle to be honest, if they can't handle that how well are they going to be able to cope with running down a gravelly country track in the pouring rain?
Having said that though, I would never expect to be able to return a pair of shoes or any item of clothing that had been through the wash - you wouldn't be able to prove how they got damaged0 -
I'm not surprised, washing them was pretty stupid IMO. How could they possibly be resold now? I would not accept them.0
