    What I meant was that the original mirror wills considered the possibility of a new marriage (ie in the event of).

    I don't see how they could. If the surviving spouse remarries then their will is invalidated. However there could be a clause that set up a trust with conditions about what should happen if the other spouse remarries. Having said that trying to cover every possibilty from the grave can be very complicated and have unforeseen consequences so is best avoided.
