Hi,
First time on.
My partner has a debt with CABOT FINANCIAL and is reluctant to call them to find out where this has come from. We have just signed her up to experian to get her straight.
Her ex was a mess with finances and it is likely from him or something he arranged, although his name doesn't appear on the report.
Is there a list of their main clients (or likely debt they have bought), so we might be able to figure this out without activating something.
We have not had any letters from this company and have no paper trail to check.
I cannot take the lead and call them because I am not named and do not want to force the issue with her.
Thanks for understanding.

Long list of potential clients. Easiest option maybe send them a prove it letter.
Or check the account numbers on the report?
Are the original debts not listed? Maybe statute barred.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
How do you know the debt with them if you have no letters from them?
If a text, ignore til they write then send the prove it letter.:beer:0 -
Hi,
First time on.
Welcome
My partner has a debt with CABOT FINANCIAL and is reluctant to call them to find out where this has come from. How do you hope to resolve it without communicating with them? We have just signed her up to experian to get her straight.
Her ex was a mess with finances and it is likely from him or something he arranged, although his name doesn't appear on the report. Then either way she will have to take responsibility and/or sort it.
Is there a list of their main clients (or likely debt they have bought), so we might be able to figure this out without activating something. Unlikely

If they are not chasing you have the choice of either leaving it and hope that it will drop off her credit report and also become statute-barred or writing to them and asking what it is for. There is no soft approach that will give you the information without direct contact.0 -
Thank you for taking the time guys. Just to be clear, the reason we know about the debt is because we opened an Experian file and it is listed with minimal info.
We do know from the report that the debt will not be cleared until 2018, but this is her only negative point and it doesnt seem to have affected her too much over last few years. Just me trying to get the 'ship tight'.
MEM62, your response makes sense and we will probably choose to leave it, although forgotmyname, a prove might be an option.
Thanks again0 -
Leave it until they write I suggest. Then send the prove it letter to find out what it is if they don't tell you in the letter.:beer:0
