I have been looking for something that will convert docx files to a word program or pdf. I downloaded something from cnet but it said the program was malicious, can anyone recommend anything? Thanks

    Libreoffice:

I don't quite follow you - DOCX is a Word document format!
Does that mean you don't have Microsoft Office/Word? If so, go with Fightsback's suggestion!

the they are using Word 2000/2003/2007 then it will be DOC.

DOCX is basically a Works format which was also brought into Word 2010

MS Works stored file info in a pseudo-XML format? I didn't know that.

(That's what the X in docx refers to).

If you have Word then download the MS Office compatibility pack

My situation too - using word 2003 and needless to say i am now a supporter of the libreoffice solution.

    Forget openoffice though, thats useless.

Do you any evidence for this statement?

The 'X' Office file formats (DOCX, XLSX, etc) were first introduced in Office 2007. Works has been virtually obsolete for at least a decade!
  • If you have a pre 2007 version of Office then download the compatibility pack.

If you have no office suite then download open office or libre office.

If you just want to convert to pdf then download cute writer pdf
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical
