MSE News: 'I made £6,375 from YouTube videos last year'

I know a large amount of online bloggers and vloggers. None of those use ad blockers. Maybe we are all making each other money. Also, while £6,375 is a nice amount I make a lot more than that online. MSE asked me about it before, to run a piece, but perhaps it didn't make a glamorous enough headline :rotfl:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. That's a great piece and it can also be a source of inspiration for folk to earn money from YT or other online sources.
People really do love pet videos, so if you have a crazy or unpredictable dog or cat then you know what to do :dance:Lao Tzu - "Give a man a fish and feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime"

I've never seen those on Youtube, but have elsewhere, and I just close the page on principle. However, there are clearly enough people prepared to sit slack-jawed through them, which is their choice.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

A lot of people don't mind waiting 5 seconds to watch a video. You don't even need to watch the ad.0

After 5 seconds you can click skip. Why close the page for a 5 second ad when the video could be really good? Is it not worth 5 seconds to see...
Some you can't skip and they're usually about 30 seconds long, but you don't get them too often and I just switch to another tab for a few seconds until it's finished.
Either way, the ads are what keep Youtube free. They do have running costs - massive running costs. Then for some people creating Youtube videos is their job. If people are watching and enjoying them then the creator deserves to be paid for that content.
Do you do the same kind of thing watching TV? After all, TV ads are far worse/longer than anything on Youtube.0 -
Most people get ripped off when they "close" your linked add sense account without warning and any "earnings" vanish in to thin air.
Those that can win the battle with Youtube put in far more hours than they earn.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -

Most people? Who are most? It happens to a few and usually it's been closed for a reason. They may make some mistakes but most accounts that are closed are closed because the person broke the rules.
I'm sure many would argue with that. A lot of people make thousands through adsense.0 -

In my opinion, no. Others clearly feel otherwise, which is their choice to make.Either way, the ads are what keep Youtube free.
I haven't ever seen any adverts on Youtube. If that changes, then I'll stop using Youtube. If people are watching and enjoying them then the creator deserves to be paid for that content.
The creator's business model is of their choosing. If this model requires that I watch an advert before the content, then I'll simply choose to watch neither. I put videos on Youtube but I have specifically disabled all advertising "features" and have never received so much as a penny from them.Do you do the same kind of thing watching TV? I don't watch live TV and use MythTV that has a very good ad skipping function. It's usually automatic but even skipping manually is very fast.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

I find it quite sad that you're can't wait for 5 seconds to watch a video...The creator's business model is of their choosing. Yes, but they do it so that you have free content. Thousands of hours worth of videos at the click on a button without paying a penny.
Just because you haven't put adsense on doesn't mean ads aren't playing on the videos or on the page. Either way if you're putting up content (that's not copyrighted/breaking their rules) by disabling ads you're the one who is losing out and possibly losing out on a lot of money (depending on how well your videos do). The site is making money anyway so the only one losing out is you.
I'm not a fan of ads (most are rubbish and boring), but when it means something is free, you're getting paid for your content and/or even being paid to watch an ad (not on Youtube, but other sites) then I couldn't care less if a site has ads on it, especially when they're only 5 seconds long.0 -

Well, there you go. We're all different, which is why we have different flavours of ice cream. I'm actually a very patient person, but find advertising so irritating that I will actively avoid it.Either way if you're putting up content (that's not copyrighted/breaking their rules) by disabling ads you're the one who is losing out and possibly losing out on a lot of money (depending on how well your videos do).
Maybe, but I get to know that I enriching the world (in my own small way) without actively trivialising it with adverts.I couldn't care less if a site has ads on it, especially when they're only 5 seconds long.
Which is great, consume all the advertising that you want, and maybe have my helping too!
However, as I use browser ad blockers, javascript and flash filters, and a daily hosts file update to block sites known to peddle advertising, etc., I'm exposed to close to zero adverts anyway.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
