Sky Tv....PPI?

Hello there!

For many many years, I was a sky TV customer. I seem to recall that, on each of my monthly bills, there was a small 'insurance' element to it. Nothing much 1 or 2 quid a month if I recall.

Unfortuately, I dont remember whether this was some kind of 'equipment' insurance, or some kind of payment protection insurance (ie. making sure I could still whatch the footy even if my house was reposessed etc).

Either way, I have no recollection of asking for it, and it's certainly not the sort of thing I would have knowningly purchased, so it's possible that they could have mis-sold it to me at some stage.

Sky and myself have since parted company, and have been apart for about 2 years now. Although we are not talking about a fortune in any terms, I'm loathe to let them escape with my cash, if indeed they mis-sold me somthing.

1. Anyone else have recollections of sky adding 'insurance' to your tv bill?
2. Anyone had a pop at claiming it back? If no-one has, happy to be the guniea pig. I quite enjoy irritating large companies, contary to the perceived wisdom, I seem to be getting more left wing as I get older.

Cheers,

Del

    It was not PPI.

I have checked your Sky Account and see that you were paying for the Sky Payment Protection Plan which is included with your monthly bills. I request you to contact our Sky Protect Team at 08444810222 to know more details about the Sky Protection Plan.
I hope this information has helped with your enquiry. If you require any further assistance, you can reply to my email.

PPI was a product sold to cover loan or credit card payments if you were unable to make them for any reason. A sky deal is not PPI - if you were unable to pay the bill they would simply cut you off and take the kit back and then pursue you for any breach of contract. If you are paying for something that you don't want, ring the company and ask if you can not pay for it

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Hi, thanks for the reply.

I'm not seeing a bunch of difference here. Depending on what I find out about this, they've included a 'payment protection plan' on my account that I was unaware of. It may have cost me £100's over the lifetime of my contract with them. I'm not paying them anymore : cancelled the whle shebang a couple of years ago. That still leaves them with my money, that I have no recollection of giving them permission to take. That being the case, surely they should refund?

    Cheers,

    Del.

PPi is payment protection insurance. it covers you if YOU are unable to work as a result of accident, sickness or unemployment

Sky protect covers YOUR SKY EQUIPMENT
Sky Protect takes care of your Sky equipment

Cover for your minidish, remotes, cabling, Sky wireless router and boxes
    - Accidental damage cover including dish realignments
    - Unlimited repairs by Sky-approved engineers, even at the weekend*
    - If we can‘t fix your equipment, we‘ll replace it*
    - Access to a dedicated UK helpline, 7 days a week

So, you can see, it isnt even close to PPI. Its closer to an extended warranty.

If you were unaware of it then why do you seem to recall paying it?

Seems to me that you knew you were paying for something and now want some free money.

    Rupert? Is that you?:)

They seem to have signed me up for something that I didn't know about at the time. Not sure that's the correct way for them to behave.

As I say in my original post, it wouldn't have been a fortune, so, for once, I'm not motivated by the almighty dollar. I'll continue the research, see what's happens. Many thanks for the reply!

But as you recall it on your bills you did know about it at the time and either chose not to question it or are changing your view for some free money.

Blame yourself for not questioning it at the time by all means...

Thanks for the advice, but I'll not be beating myself up too much for someone charging me for a service I didn't want or need. I'm broad shouldered with that sort of thing....:)

Rather than 'going after free money' as you are slightly judgementally suggesting, I'm being philanthoripic. Perhaps I'm thinking of other people who maybe dont realise that the lovely people at sky seem happy to remove money from their accounts without asking them. Perhpas I'm going to take on Rupert and his chums, armed only with my keyboard and mouse. I quite like the idea of being a social warrior, sticking up for the little guy. I'm going to start wearing my pants on the outside of my trousers.

Many thanks for your continued interest.

    Cheers,

    Del.

It's not PPI nor is it something you are entitled to a refund for.
