Renting private apartment?

We have had lots of problems with our travel agent and have started looking to rent a private apartment. The one we really like is asking for the full price (in three instalments) up front by BACS & there's no possibility to pay by credit card.
Would we have any come back if things were to go wrong?

Probably not... depends on how you found it, and if through a booking site the terms and conditions of that site.
If you want a site that does give you some protection on this kind of thing, check out

AirBnB - not sure if they offer any form of protection.

As this is the overseas forum I would guess not.

Aibnb offers protection, I have booked 2 apartments overseas this year (it's going to be my first experience), but all my friends use it and it's always good.0

Thanks for the replies, it's in Mallorca.
We have now found an apartment where the owne only wants €100 deposit and the balance in cash on arrival. I'm feeling much better about this.

I found homeaway rather expensive but reckon the advertisers need to pay them a fee & that probably reflects in their prices0

I have been booking direct with owners for the last 10 years, from static caravans through to holiday villas, and have never had an issue with these bookings.
I have booked through Airbnb, and found that to be very easy, but otherwise it ahs been through direct website or via ownersdirect or niumba
For me, now there is no other way, and I would highly recommend it0 -
Yes, they either pay so much a year or a percentage, it's up to advertiser.sophiejames wrote: »I found homeaway rather expensive but reckon the advertisers need to pay them a fee & that probably reflects in their pricesTall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0
