Tomtom Go 50,60, 500 or 600 Camera alert
Hi members,
I am thinking of replacing my tomtom and came across this new range of tomtoms which offer lifetime map updates and free traffic updates which involves connecting it with your smartphone.
However all the above mentioned models i.e (Go 50,60,500 & 600) mention that the camera alerts are for just 3 months and after that a yearly subscription of £19.99 is needed.
My existing tomtom about 4 years old still alerts me when there is a speed camera. I understand that the newer cameras installed wont be shown but it still does the job.
Is anyone using any of the above models? Could you please let me know does the camera alerts completely stop after 3 months or is it just that the newer cameras that would not show up on the tomtom.
I spoke to a a member of staff in Currys and John Lewis and they had no idea.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I have a recently purchased TomTom. I haven't updated the speed cameras at all. It alerts me to the ones it knows about (even if they aren't there anymore). I don't think it adds new ones if you don't update. Same as when you had to purchase map updates. Lifetime maps is good.
'I spoke to a a member of staff in Currys and John Lewis and they had no idea.' Why am I not surprised?0 -

You are subscribing to recieve the latest databases, £20 is cheaper than the price of 3 points or an awareness course. Not that having the database access will prevent that occuring.0 -
Thanks guys. So just to confirm the subscription would provide me newer updates and without subscription the database already stored on the device would still alert me for the existing speed cameras.
£20 is good value for the year. However I just wanted to make sure what was the exact scenario incase I choose to not buy the subscription.
This is the one I am considering to purchase.

Yes the existing speed camera location will stay on your device even if you don't renew your subscription. There are sored as POIs, the same as petrol stations, carparks etc.. The subscription is to update the database, same like the map- you won't lose it if you don't update.0

The Speed Camera database available from http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/ is much more comprehensive and up-to-date than the one which TomTom sells.
