Mail today brought Yorkshire Water offering home plumbing cover (through Homeserve) for 50p per month for a year.
Seems like a decent deal, what d'ya wise MSE types reckon?

Depends what it covers and what insurances you already have.
You'd also need to be careful to catch the renewal when inevitably it will jump up considerably to its normal pricing.0 -
I have also received a letter from Yorkshire Water about plumbing protection through Homeserve, and would be grateful to those experienced in these matters for their opinion. I don't currently have any plumbing insurances. Thanks.
Here is the letter (apologies for the poor quality):0 -

Hi
I'm reopening this posts as I keep on receiving latter's offering y w homeserve. Would this not be included on house insurance? Do y w offer this to all properties? Or just those at risk?

I have also received one of those letters.
I am sure I read somewhere that this was generally covered by the water board however when I read that it sounds ridiculous! Is it from the boundary to the mains?
Anyone any ideas?

Personally I think it's a good value for the first year (and first year only).0 -
I recieved a few of these letters but I contacted my house insurance to see what I was covered for, I am already covered for what homeserve are offering. Best to check your house insurance first.0

Your home policy might have an emergency add-on which covers leak/blockage etc, but not for dripping/seized taps. The latter is actually a more serious problem in my (hard-water) area.0 -
Your home insurance (if it doesn't have home emergency added onto it) is very unlikely to cover any internal pipes, unless you have accidental damage cover and you accidentally damaged the pipe.
Even if it does have home emergency cover, most of the time if they can't repair the issue there and then they will just turn off the water, to stop the emergency.0
