Selling shares as executor

I'm having to apply for probate but how can I determine the value of these different shares (for probate purposes) without, for example Equiniti releasing their information to me (which I can't find out before probate is granted)? I seem to be going around in circles!
I'd be really interested in knowing how others have dealt with this. Is it the case of writing to ALL companies that I'm coming across and asking them for statements of accounts held? I can provide copies of the death certificate and dad's will (which shows everything left to mum and me as executor).Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Yahoo finance (as per this example https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/q/hp?s=BT) provide historic share prices.
Equiniti will provide you with a valuation based on date of death, but they do charge for this service.0 -
Interesting thread as, unfortunately, I find myself in the position of executor of my late father's estate.
Dad had shares all over the place, ISA's all over the place and multiple savings accounts. I need to transfer all assets to mum. I'm coming across numerous shares held via Equiniti and others with Eberola (?).

This is much the same situation as me. I'm in a good mood, as I've just returned from the Post Office without two very thick parcels containing PA1 and IHT400 :j
I wrote to every organisation that held cash-based investments with a DC, asking them to confirm DoD balance, including interest accrued (and any other holdings in Dad's name etc)
Also wrote to all registrars of his shareholdings (all are held on certificated basis, no nominees) with DC, asking them to confirm the holding.
Used netsharevalue.co.uk for probate valuation of the shares (preferred to have a third-party piece of paper to send with the return, seemed less likely to invite scrutiny). They were pretty cheap - couple of quid per holding IIRC - and mechanism is functional, if a bit clunky. One gotcha is that they will indicate whether a share was XD at DoD, but you'll have to allow for the additional value yourself. Not a big deal, but be conscious.
Equiniti are shysters who charge for everything, are not efficient and wanted £18 to value each holding. Steer clear!
Every organisation is slightly different. The best to deal with by far have been Nationwide. The worst - as in utterly atrocious - have been the Post Office. I also sent a letter this morning to the PO, telling them so.
Have fun! It's not that bad as long as you are the process-oriented type and you keep careful records. Of everything. Actually, since most (I assume) is passing to your Mum, you may not need to do as much as I've had to - should be much more straightforward0
