How do you ask a ebay seller for a partial refund

I've had to contact an ebay seller about an item I bought from them and they told me to send it back for a full refund but with the price of postage I think I can repair it cheaper. So is there a way I can ask for a partial refund.

If the seller is not willing to refund or pay for your return postage costs then open a case for not as described. You should get a pre-paid label or ring Ebay and they should provide one.0 -

Only you can know what is a reasonable amount to offer that is worth it to you.0 -

If it's faulty you won't be paying. eBay labels are charged to the seller.
Why don't you message him, using "I have a question about the item" and let him know you can repair it for £x and would he be prepared to cover the cost?0 -
Sellers are increasingly aware of buyers claiming that the item sold to them has a fault and that they only need a refund of £x to fix it.
Consequently, a standard seller response is now "return the item". This reply tends to focus the mind of the purchaser on whether the item needs repair or not....I am a cow so cannot speak Bullshine but I do recognise its smell when I come upon it.0 -

What happens if it is a private seller?0 -

In a SNAD case buyer still pays return costs if a case is open.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. What's the extra £1 for?0
