Santander have incorrect info

Any help would be appreciated. I wanted to check my credit file as we want to go for a new car in June/July time, and wanted to make sure there was nothing on there that would jeopardise any credit I needed.

I found my credit score was POOR, but simply because I have 70% credit already (I called Equifax), and they said even though all up to date, and paid on time every time, it could be purely the amount of credit I have, and also some old ones that may show late payments etc, but, they said I could contact these companies and ask them if they would remove them. There are 3 in total, from 2013, 2011 and 2010 - 2 were closed of which I need to contact and the 3rd, Santander Current account - I spoke to someone and asked if they would consider removing it, and they politely told me it was still in default at £404.58 - gob smacked was not the word - the balance and settlement dates on my file said £0 and satisfied 24.11.11.

At no stage at all what-so-ever have I been contacted to ask when I intend to pay this, or sent me a statement or reminders - NOTHINS at all....and this is affecting my credit file enormously.....how do I handle this??? I even had to take a photograph of the page on Equifax, showing the nil balance and settled date.

I am in shock - please help.

It all hinges on. Is the debt accurate? If so, all you can do is negotiate - if you pay it off in full, will they remove any default (bearing in mind they reported it was £0). If not, then you can challenge on accuracy.
  • Thanks Buzby. It was some time ago now, and cannot remember how much the arrears were, but, it was all settled and paid off, and it states this on my credit file. How can they have an outstanding balance and not inform me, or send any documents advising me?? I'm baffled.

Have they sold the debt on?
  • I do not know Thrugelmir - I have had no correspondence, no letters, statements, reminders, collection letters...NOTHING from them at all??!!! I am so annoyed ;-(
