van or large estate car/MPV?

Need to hire a vehicle to move my son from Edinburgh to Bristol(contents of flat). Trying to work out if a small van or large car will be best. Can anyone advise eg how a Vauxhall Combo 1.3D would compare to an estate car or MPV, roughly speaking. The Van is shown as having 2.39³m capacity.

We previously fitted all his stuff into a Ford Focus Hatchback with the seats down, plus a roof box

thanks

 • Why not just go for a transit size van, he may have accumulated more stuff since he moved in. Better to have too much space than too little.
