Alternative to ebay???

Hi everyone!

Im looking to boost my income and would like to list items on fleabay... i mean list ALOT of items! I havent been on ebay for a while but i have noticed that fees have got very expensive what with the seller account fee etc. I am not sure how much profit i will make at this time so not sure i want to risk it...Is there an alternative auction site i could use? GUMTREE is out of the question. I was thinking of facebook... (as much as i hate it!)

Any ideas?

  • You'd do better asking this on the ebay section.

Anyway, there is ebid but you are very unlikely to get the sales you would on ebay.

    There's also Amazon.

Perhaps a carboot or market stall could be an option?

You could create your own website to sell on, but obviously it'll be harder to get traffic and sales than selling on ebay.

Fees are quite high on ebay but it might be worthwhile working out the costs and seeing. If you're buying and reselling then you are a business seller and if you're selling a lot then you may be able to get discounts.
  • Hi

You could try eBid its not as big as ebay , but the fees are alot better

Ebid is a non starter, there are no buyers at all.

Better off with one of the sites already mentioned like Facebook or local small ads- even some of the smaller sites like preloved.

Ebid is mirrors eBay, but without all the fees.

I did sell something once- in fact I've sold about three things on there- in 14 years or so...the only site that ever cost me money and not one I would recommend

    Edit: Also Facebook.

Facebook sales are very popular now and a growing market. I sold my old iphone on there a few weeks back for the same price as I would have got on ebay after fees- but with just cash on collection it was great. The only issue with facebook is the amount of no shows- I currently run at about 2 out of 3 people who arrange to collect something never turn up and just never contact me again.

Log in as normal and do a search for selling groups in your local area. Say for instance you live in Bromley in Kent- try search terms like 'selling Bromley' or selling Kent', be creative in your searches and also look for local areas. I'm in Greater London and I can find about 40 local selling groups with various searches- many with upwards of 20,000 people registered.

You always have to ask to join- so allow a day for the admin to approve, read the rules of each site as some admin are very fierce and will ban you if you don't follow the rules. Most are roughly the same though, they need a photo, a description with all damage noted, then your location- keep it fairly local so mention 'near xx school postcode xx' or similar and also state whether it is listed on more than one site.

That's it really, wait for someone to contact you via facebook- always use cash and be warned that there is a very high failure rate of people turning up to buy when they say they will.
