Please help! I cleaned my dishwasher a week ago and..

... I can't get rid of the smell of the bloody cleaning stuff:( It's the sort that comes in a bottle and you put it on an empty wash(Morrisons own) A week later it still has the horrible chemical smell, dishes smell of it when they come out etc:( I've tried rinsing it, running it empty with just a tablet, running it with a vinegar, leaving it open to vent and just can't get rid of it. I don't even know where it's coming from, it's mostly metal inside.
Suffice to say I'll never go near the stuff again but short of buying a new machine what can I do to get rid of the smell now please?

Try using a baby bottle sterilizing fluid such as Milton. I used it to get rid of the smell in a fridge. Mix as instructions, then wipe all the internal surfaces and parts. If the smell persists try a cleaning cycle with some soda crystals in.
  • Thanks a lot Oldsoak, I haven't thought of neither of these!

Have you posted a message to Morrisons to advise them of the problem and ask for their advice?
  • DSmiffy, yeah, I've sent them a formal letter by post today.

So sick of this scent by now, it doesn't feel as if is fading whatsoever. Plastic food containers stink(and any food left in them as I've learned), silicone utensils and bakeware, Teflon pans REEK when heated.

Have you tried leaving the door full open for a day or two and also may be worth cleaning the spray arms and filter with water.. .
  • Get some charcoal briquettes, and break them up. Then put some newspaper on the bottom of the dishwasher, and put the broken up briquettes on top. Shut the door, and leave for 24 hours. Hopefully, the charcoal will have absorbed the odour.
