you mean shutting itself off? try chkdsk (type in the run box) to see if it finds any errors. My dad's comp had the same problem and it turned out it was faulty memory...

What do you mean shutting down automatically? Is it just turning off or does a dialogue box come up with a countdown in it?

Sounds very similar to the symptoms of the blaster worm to me...(see below link or google it)

Do you regularly use windows update to download the patches etc.? if you do then the blaster worm should have been sorted by now (it came out in 2003) If thats the case and you're not running on a fresh install that's just not been updated yet then you may be looking at a hardware problem as mentioned by another poster above, or just general windows instability;) as happens from time to time when a machine's been up and running for a while...

If so then it could be worth backing all your data up and doing a fresh install of Windows and all your programs (seek advice via google, or better yet a friend who's a pc whizz (but one who's going to put it all right if they mess it up!) on the procedures for doing this and don't forget to back up your email settings / favourites etc) . If that don't fix it then it most likely is a hardware failure (my suspicion would be the harddrive)

    Good luck!

PS did I mention backing up before doing a reinstall? and in fact getting in to the habit of regularly backing up. - it will save you tears in the end!

PPS back up at least once a week - you know it makes sense...and yes , having been bitten by this one I am unashamedly obsessive about this...
