Catalogue Debt

Options
Hi All, I am new to this site and really need some help.

Years ago I got myself into debt and registered with Step Change who have been absolutely brilliant, but stupidly last year joined a catalogue (Very, Woolworths and Isme) to help get me through Christmas etc for my daughter.

At first the monthly payments were fine, but now am struggling to meet them and owe £3,000.

I am really scared as I obviously can't go back to Step Change as shouldn't have taken out anymore credit (I now but I was stupid) and don't know where to turn.

Can anyone help please.

  • There is nothing to stop you going to a different DMP company (I'm assuming its a DMP that Stepchange helped you with?) - just ensure it is one of the free companies such as Payplan.
  • Yes it is a DMP I have with Step Change. I have contacted PayPlan but this morning was reading reviews and it sounds like a lot of people have got into worse trouble being with them so now don't know where to go
  • I can only speak from my own experience with Payplan which was that they were very good.

    Hi,
Let me get this straight, are you currently in a DMP with SC ?

If yes, how many creditors do you have ?

Ok, well SC are well used to this sort of thing, it happens, thats life.

    Your options are :

Tell SC about the new debt, ask them to incorporate it into your DMP, if the kick off and cancel your plan, go self managed, and inc the new debt, its simple to do it yourself, you dont need any 3rd party help to do this.

Option 2, negotiate with Very yourself, and attempt to come to some agreement where you pay a lesser amount, but in all honesty, i doubt this will work, as they are part of shop direct group, and dont really accommodate people who cant pay.

Option 3, default on the cat debt, allow it to go through the debt collection process, wait until its sold on, then agree terms with whoever buys the debt.

    Option 4, ignore Very completely.

Up to you in the end.

  • Hi

Please dont fret about this we all make mistakes and yes you shouldnt have done it but you need to talk to your DMP managers and get this included.

    Good luck

    Paid off all Catalogues 10.10.2014
  • We all have hiccups along the way to being debt free. Call SC and they should be able to add the existing debt into your DMP.

Don't beat yourself up about it. As least you are doing something about it and that is the main thing :)

Go with this option. Use the ISME rep if Very don't quickly stop their charges and interest.
